Beginners Program 10-Week Coaching Program

Learn to surf and build the confidence to keep surfing after the lessons end.

If you've always wanted to learn to surf, or you've had a few lessons but still feel like you're finding your feet in the whitewash, this is where to start.

Over 10 weeks, we'll help you build strong surfing foundations, understand the ocean and develop the confidence to start taking your surfing into your own hands.

And we won't disappear the moment your lessons finish.

We'll gradually support you from learning to surf with us → surfing while we watch → surfing on your own.

So when the lessons end, surfing doesn't - it becomes something you feel ready to keep doing for yourself.

Weeks 1-6: Learn With Us

We'll start with weekly in-person surf coaching sessions at Caves Beach.

Groups are intentionally kept small, with a maximum of 6 women and 2 instructors, so you'll have plenty of individual attention and support while still getting to learn alongside a crew of women at a similar stage.

We'll meet you exactly where you are and work on things like:

  • Ocean safety and awareness

  • Understanding your surf equipment

  • Board handling

  • Paddling technique

  • Catching waves

  • Pop-up technique

  • Choosing the right waves

  • Starting to understand surf conditions

  • Building confidence in the water

  • Learning how to practise effectively between sessions

We'll also work on the mindset side of learning to surf - because sometimes the biggest challenges aren't physical.

Fear, hesitation, comparison and feeling like everyone else is progressing faster than you can all become part of learning something new.

We want you to build your skills and enjoy being a beginner.

Because we want surfing to become something you want to keep coming back to.

Weeks 7-8: Surf While We Watch

Now it's time for us to start stepping back.

For two weeks, instead of a traditional lesson, we'll meet for a supervised surf session.

We'll choose the most suitable surf spot based on the conditions that day and help you understand why we've chosen it.

Then you'll head into the water and put everything you've been learning into practice while we coach from the beach.

No instructor standing beside you telling you which wave to catch.

You'll start making those decisions yourself - while knowing we're still there if you need us.

We'll film parts of the session from the beach too, so afterwards we can use the footage to give you personalised feedback and help you understand what to work on next.

These sessions are the bridge between having surf lessons and actually going surfing.

Weeks 9-10: Your Independent Surfs

And then it's time to give it a go without us there.

You'll be encouraged to organise your own surf sessions and start putting all those weeks of practice together.

But you won't suddenly be left to figure everything out alone.

You'll have access to our private coaching group throughout the full 10 weeks, and during these final weeks, we'll use it to support what happens in your independent surfs.

Maybe you get to the beach and aren't sure about the conditions.

Maybe you have a session where everything suddenly clicks.

Maybe you can't catch a single wave and have absolutely no idea why.

Bring it to the group.

We'll have structured check-ins, answer your questions and help you turn those first independent surf experiences into learning.

Because the goal isn't simply to get you standing up during a surf lesson.

It's to help you actually start surfing.

Learning to Work With the Ocean

Surfing isn't a sport where we can guarantee the same conditions every week, and understanding that is part of learning to surf.

We'll aim to run our sessions on consecutive weeks, but we'll always work with what the ocean gives us.

Some conditions might be perfect for practising pop-ups and catching waves.

Others might give us an opportunity to focus on paddling, board control, reading the ocean or understanding conditions.

If the surf isn't suitable for the planned in-water session, we may adapt what we're working on or reschedule where necessary.
